Holiday cookies and treats

The weather has finally changed and the cool weather is upon us.  The holiday season is in the air and people are now gathering more than ever before.  It is a time to bring loved ones together and for family and friends to reconnect.  This is also an amazing time to eat and drink all of your favorite seasonal snacks and drinks. I think that more baking and cooking is done during this time than any other.  I also secretly think more candy is consumed by adults than at any other time during the year and that is surely saying something.  It is the time where adults can binge on yummy goods and if you are planning on baking and cooking yummy things this year it may be worth trying to be a bit healthier.

I know that for my family baking cookies filled with their favorite candy boxes candy is a huge thing.  We make Hershey Kisses cookies in our family and they are absolutely incredible but they are most definitely not healthy. That is certain and I am sure we have caused a few cavities to have occurred during this time of year.  But when your mom spends multiple weekends baking cookies and getting them ready, you most definitely have to eat a few.  That is why this year I think I am going to skip the cookies filled with our favorite sweets from candy boxes and instead bake some healthy cookies of my own.

This year I found a really cool thing at Costco.  It is a major shopping store that has some specialty items that are usually based on different diets and they can really be cool.  Hopping through the aisles and shopping with my family I found a pancake mix.  This was not like any normal pancake mix but was for the keto diet.  It was made with very healthy items that are not filled with sugar or carbs.  So these were going to be really cool.

I ended up making pancakes for breakfast the next day and our family loved them.  This mix became a family favorite and it was really healthy to use and to eat.  But one day I wanted some cookies and my family was struggling with going out because we didn't want to go out shopping with COVID-19 because it's not fun.  We simply didn't have the ingredients at home though.  So we looked up pancake mix cookie recipes and found one to try.  This one allowed us to actually make cookies with the keto mix and we gave it a shot.  These cookies were so good and fluffy and used semi-sweet chocolate chips.  These actually tasted just like store-purchased cookies and I know they will be a big hit.

That is why I think everyone should google this and give it a try to help your health this year.  Holidays are amazing, but being healthy is important and can not only allow you to feel better but to be around longer to enjoy these holiday seasonal get-togethers as well.   So think about what treats you can make this year that may be a little more healthy.  I am not a huge fan of being injured, sick, or in the hospital for bad eating.  I am pretty sure no one wants that!
